Musk Shampoo Bar, naked – all hair types
The 'naked' version of Musk shampoo bar – packaged only in a paper wrapper for minimal waste. Hairy Jayne solid shampoo bars are 98% naturally derived and biodegradable, plastic free, sulphate free, palm oil free, cruelty free and vegan. They lather up very well to gently cleanse the hair and nourish the scalp with Aloe Vera and Mango Butter.
Musk Shampoo Bar for all hair types, formulated and made by a hairdresser with shampoo ingredients, not soap. Hairy Jayne sulphate free solid shampoo bars are pH balanced for healthy hair and scalp (so no need for an apple cider vinegar rinse afterwards).
Directions for use
To get the best out of your bar, keep it out of water between uses. If it's not allowed to dry between uses, it'll become quite squidgy – but can be reshaped and remoulded (like putty!) whenever necessary. We recommend using a bar holder or cork resting mat.
- Saturate your hair through with warm water.
- Rub the bar directly onto your scalp or in the palm of your hand with some water.
- Massage your scalp all over until the shampoo lathers.
- Rinse your hair and scalp well, until your hair feels squeaky clean.
- Store your shampoo bar away from water and allow to dry.

Our Musk fragrance is an essential oil blend of Neroli, Vetiver & Patchouli.

I’ve been using this shampoo bar since 2020 circa (not the same bar, obviously!) and it leaves my hair so soft, shiny, fluffy and full of volume. I alternate between different shampoo and each time I go back to this bar because it makes my hair feel better than any other shampoo I use. I have fine hair so this works so well for me. I will agree with some of the previous reviews on how it lathers, it can take quite a bit of product to lather up well into the hair and it does lose its shape quite quickly and breaks into parts. Not sure how it can be improved but please don’t change the recipe too much as it makes my hair feel long and luscious. I’m about to purchase another bar now as we speak 🙂
The shampoo bar leaves my hair feeling clean and nice, but I find it quite difficult to use. I have to apply a lot of pressure to get it to lather, and unfortunately, that causes a noticeable amount of hair to fall out each time. The bar also loses its shape quickly and ends up melting in a pool of water—I keep it in a ceramic dish, so maybe I need the soap holder sold on the website, but it's a bit pricey. For context, I’m Asian with straight, fine black hair. According to the instructions, I might need to use conditioner before applying the shampoo bar. However, I’ve never needed conditioner before, and it’s not a cheap addition. Overall, I don’t hate using this shampoo bar—it does its basic job—and I think I will keep trying it for a few months, but I think there’s definitely room for improvement.
The bars are small and soft so don't last well.
I've only tried a few shampoo bars but these are my go to! I love the way they make my hair feel after washing and the scents are great. I usually go for the Citrus but I've had a few of the others when it's been out of stock - they're all nice scents but Citrus is my favourite.
They lather wonderfully, I definitely find it works best for me rubbing the bar between my hands then applying to my scalp, but your mileage may vary. I do have to note that I don't use conditioner, I haven't for years and my hair is fine without it if I double wash - the bars last me about 4/5 months with the double wash every 4/5 days or so. The bars last longer if I use my bottled shampoo as the first wash (trying to get it used up so I can get rid of it).
I do love the difference options of wrapping, the tin, the box or naked, I've been choosing naked to try to be a little more sustainable, but I did grab a tin for travel once.
Highly recommend trying these, I know they have small tester ones available if you're unsure.
