solid conditioner bars

Hairy Jayne's conditioner bars deliver silky, nourished hair without the plastic. Completely waterless and free from silicones, sulphates and parabens, each 50g bar is made with natural plant oils, mango butter and wheat protein, and melts down into a conditioning cream with warm water. Formulated by a hairdresser, powered by plants.

What are solid conditioner bars and how do they work?

Unlike a conventional liquid conditioner, our solid conditioner bars contain no water, just olive oil, mango butter, coconut wax, wheat protein, palm-free stearic acid and essential oils in a compact 50g bar.

Because there's no water in the formula, no preservatives are needed. To use, break off a small piece and work it in your palm with a little warm water until it forms a paste, then keep adding water until it becomes a cream. Apply to the mid-lengths and ends of wet hair, comb through and rinse well.

Alternatively, dissolve a quarter of the bar in boiling water to make a liquid conditioner that will keep for a few weeks.

Which hair types suit conditioner bars?

Our conditioner bars are great for dry, wavy and curly hair, with the richer formula suits hair that needs more nourishment and definition. They also work well on frizzy hair. On fine or straight hair, conditioner bars work best using the reverse washing method, by applying to dry hair before shampooing rather than after.

If you have fine hair, our light conditioner works well as as a rinse out conditioner. Not sure? Take our hair care quiz for a personalised recommendation.

Fragrances, packaging and storage

Our conditioner bars are available in four essential oil fragrances: floral, citrus, musk and herbal. You have the option to have your bar sent 'naked' without the outer packaging, or with a recycable carboard outer box. A single 50g bar lasts approximately two months with daily use, or four to six months when used every few days.

To get the most out of your bar, keep it out of standing water between uses, a bar holder or cork resting mat will help it last longer.

why choose hairy jayne solid conditioner bars

All Hairy Jayne conditioner bars are handmade by Jayne herself. Founder, former hairdresser, and the person behind every formula. Made in small batches in Bristol, each bar is silicone free, sulphate free, vegan and cruelty free with zero plastic packaging.

Our conditioner bars are one of the most sustainable ways to condition your hair, with no plastic bottle, no water waste and minimal packaging. Pair with one of our shampoo bars or natural shampoos for a more eco-friendly hair care routine.

Why make the switch to a solid conditioner bar?

Solid conditioner bars are one of the most effective ways to reduce plastic in your bathroom. Because they contain no water, the formula is more concentrated than a liquid conditioner. No preservatives needed, just active ingredients like olive oil, mango butter and wheat protein.

A single 50g bar lasts up to six months, and the paper-only packaging means no plastic ever enters your routine.

FAQs

commonly asked questions about conditioner bars

Are conditioner bars as effective as liquid conditioner?

Yes, our conditioner bars contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than most liquid conditioners because there's no water diluting the formula.

They're packed with olive oil, mango butter and wheat protein to soften, nourish and strengthen hair. The application method is slightly different to a liquid conditioner, but the results are just as effective, particularly for dry, wavy and curly hair types.

How long does a conditioner bar last?

A 50g bar lasts approximately two months with daily use, or four to six months when used every few days, which we'd recommend for most hair types.

To maximise the lifespan of your bar, keep it out of direct water between uses and allow it to dry fully. A bar holder or cork resting mat makes this easy to manage in the shower.

Are conditioner bars suitable for coloured hair?

Yes, our conditioner bars are free from sulphates, silicones and parabens, making them a gentle choice for colour-treated hair.

The natural plant oils and wheat protein help to nourish and strengthen hair without stripping colour. For very dry or damaged colour-treated hair, our Treatment Conditioner is also worth considering as a weekly mask alongside the bar.

How do you use a solid conditioner bar?

Break off a small piece and work it in your palm with a little warm water until it forms a paste, then keep adding water until it becomes a cream. Apply to the mid-lengths and ends of wet hair, comb through and rinse well.

Alternatively, dissolve a quarter of the bar in boiling water to make a liquid conditioner that will keep for a few weeks. Keep the bar out of standing water between uses to help it last longer.
