Our Shampoo Concentrate is not your average shampoo! It's a shampoo paste in a refillable jar – more sustainable than a regular shampoo without the mess of a shampoo bar.  Our water-activated shampoo concentrate contains less than half the water of liquid shampoos, just add water in the shower. The super concentrated, sulfate-free formula is enriched with Green Tea and Aloe Vera to gently cleanse, hydrate and refresh hair. Leaves your hair feeling incredibly soft and bouncy.

Directions for use

Make sure you wet your hair thoroughly first, as adding water and friction will create a lather. Then either:

1. Apply a tiny amount of shampoo to your hair line, behind the ears and at the neck line. Rub to create a lather and then massage and distribute all over scalp. Rinse out well.

2. Rub a pea-sized amount of shampoo between wet palms to activate some lather. Massage the shampoo into your whole scalp, adding some water in if necessary. Rinse well.

If your hair has a squeaky feeling when you rinse, the shampoo has done its job. A good lather is lovely, but is not absolutely necessary. If your hair really is in need of a more clarifying wash, do a second shampoo after rinsing, but with even less product – it will really will lather up with a second shampoo.

Impressed

Impressed how far this goes. I've tried Upcircle's shampoo concentrate as well and so far I actually prefer Hairy Jayne's one. It lathers really well and leaves my hair squeaky clean.

So far, so good! I've used this for about a week now, and I haven't reacted to it. It makes my hair feel lovely and clean, and a little goes a long way.

Love this! Smells great and cleans hair brilliantly

I only use Hairy Jayne for hair care and have purchased their products since first coming across a market stall 13 years ago.
You don't need much of this bergamot concentrate shampoo to clean. I wash my hair once a week and find a small pea size amount, followed by a tiny bit more for a second wash is all I need.
I now buy this for my 2 children as well, as it's a brilliant product with no nasty chemicals.

Not for me

Sadly this one just didn't do it for me. I loved that it was truly fragrance free, and I really love the sustainable glass jar, but I'm definitely glad I got the small jar to try. Used as directed and even tried tips from other reviews but it just didn't make my hair feel as nice, or work as well as the bars, it also didn't keep my hair clean for as long as the bars, so sadly this one is a pass for me. But your mileage may vary.

I wasn't sure if they were over-egging how concentrated this product is but it's absolutely amazing. I am finding that 2 washes takes less than a teaspoon of the shampoo. It's a lovely leather and leaves my hair feeling great.

Thank you for your support and lovely review, means the world to us :))

If you are someone who suffers from an itchy scalp condition, who reacts to other haircare products and/or who just wants a shampoo with minimal ingredients that does an incredible job of effectively cleaning the hair and scalp, please give this shampoo concentrate a try. For reference, I have the fragrance-free version and currently use it with the Cream Conditioner (but also love the Treatment Conditioner!)

It took me some trial and error and a little time before I found a way of using this concentrate that not only gave me shiny, clean, healthy hair but that didn't irritate my scalp. To begin with, I used it as directed, applying the concentrate direct to the hairline in small amounts, massaging, rinsing etc but I did find it a little tricky just using pea-sized quantities and I also still noticed some itching after use. However, I didn't give up!

The method that works best for me and that results in absolutely NO irritation, itching etc, just clean, healthy, shiny hair is as follows: I take one of Jayne's brilliant aluminium pump bottles (available in the shop 😉 ) and decant my shampoo concentrate into one of these. I then take a separate 100ml bottle and every time I wash my hair, I squirt two pumps of concentrate into the empty bottle, fill it to the top with water, shake and apply the full bottle all over my scalp. I massage it in thoroughly, rinse and repeat with another two pumps. The result after around 2 months of using it this way is the healthiest, cleanest hair and the most comfortable scalp I have had in years. I can go longer between washes without my scalp getting oily or itchy and the natural auburn and blonde tones in my hair have even started to shine through where for years, my hair looked dull and unhealthy.

As I said earlier, it may take you some trial and error but don't be afraid to experiment a little with the concentrate. If one method doesn't work for you, perhaps try it another way and you may just find a holy grail product like I have. I have never had such a comfortable, happy scalp and my hair is looking better than it has in years. It is also easier to style which is an added bonus.

This shampoo is great! This is a repeat purchase. I love the way my hair feels so clean after use. I wash my hair every 1 - 2 weeks, and it doesn't seem to get so dirty in between times. A pea size amount goes a long way, so the concentrate lasts ages.
I have been exclusively purchasing hair products from hairy Jayne for over a decade and couldn't do without them. My hair feels more nourished, looks less frizzy and smells divine!

I’ve got fine hair and have always struggled to find a good shampoo, but this one really surprised me. It’s the best one I’ve ever used and means I can go longer between washes. A little goes a long way and it leaves my hair really soft and shiny.

This is a great product for my hair, which is fine, coloured and short. It also really economical as I don't need to use much, and packaged so compactly that it's going with me on every trip away from home. Thanks, guys! 😁

I like these products so much, I'm collecting them in bulk! Really easy to use, and with a fresh scent, they keep my hair in great condition.

I'm a complete convert! Love the thick texture. First wash gets to work without any lather. Second wash lathers up rich & creamy suds. My hair feels clean without feeling stripped. And I can go for soooo much longer between washes, my shoulder length hair just doesn't seem to get greasy with this shampoo. 100ml refill lasts 6 months, approx 1 double wash per week.

I was really impressed with the cleaning capacity of this shampoo, so i needed to but another! I have used the shampoo bars (which I love) but I find this easy to use as my regular shampoo. It cleans brilliantly and leaves no residue - and it lasts ages!

Absolutely love this. My hair feels great and I’ve really taken to the concentrate style! Easy for travel too :)

I love this shampoo. I have short hair, so a little goes a really long way, and I don't always have to use a conditioner as it leaves my hair nice and soft.

I bought a 30 ml jar of the concentrate to use on my hols later this year. I ran out of Matrix colour shampoo earlier this week, so i decided to give the concentrate a go: I used it today for the 3rd time, without using a conditioner, and I'm really pleased with how soft my hair is. I tried using the recommended application method but I'm happier just mixing a small amount between my palms and them applying it direct to my (very short) hair. I'm hoping it's OK for coloured hair going forward, as I'm not convinced I want to return to Matrix!

The fragrance free shampoo concentrate is great ! It's easy to use and gets my hair really clean while still leaving it soft. Would be nice to have a fragrance free Hairy Jayne conditioner to use with it, I have to get a fragrance free conditioner bar from somewhere else.

I tried the concentrate shampoo today for the first time and I loved it! I've been using the original nourishing shampoo for years and years, and I have to admit I was a bit doubtful that the new version would stand up. But I have to agree with others who have commented here... it might actually be even better. Give it a bit of time as you work it into the hair and the lather is real! Thank you Hairy Jayne!!

I love this new formula shampoo. I've been using Hairy Jayne shampoo and conditioner for over 3 years and was worried about a new formula but I would say it's even better than the original Nourishing Shampoo! I would usually wash my hair twice a week. The shampoo has made my hair really soft and it has actually given me more defined curls in my hair without having to use additional styling product. I also really like the scent!

This products is pretty special. It goes so far and your hair stays cleaner for a lot longer than other shampoos. It also makes your hair very soft, light and healthy. Not sure about the smell but that doesn’t bleed onto your hair. I can tell a tub will go along way.

I have ‘normal’ hair that’s about 16 inches long, which is naturally but weirdly wavy, so I blow dry it as straight as I can and use straighteners for a night out. I’ve been using Jayne’s shampoo bars for a couple of years or so and found them perfect for my hair. This new nourishing offering is no different. I only wash my hair once a week and found I don’t need conditioner but I wanted to give my hair a treat every now and again. I’ve found the nourishing concentrate works best for me if I use it for the first shampoo, leaving it on whilst I shave my legs, then rinse and use the shampoo bar for the second wash. I attended 3 festivals over the summer and my hair felt perfectly good to be seen in public over the 3 long ( and quite wet! ) weekends! With only needing such a tiny amount of the shampoo, a little goes a long way. I rub it over my hands then rub my fingers through my hair and give my scalp a massage. After washing I can easily pass a comb through my damp hair, no tangles. I work outdoors with horses in all weathers, but at the end of the day I can still brush my hair easily and it feels soft all week. 10/10 from me!
