5 fun ways to use our new customisable Conditioner Base
I’m excited to introduce you to our latest gem of a hair care product – the brand new natural Conditioner Base. The idea for it had been on my mind for a while now and it’s finally here. A customisable conditioner that you can mix and make your own hair care creations with.
If you're looking for a versatile addition to your natural and eco-friendly hair care routine, this is it. Or if you just prefer fragrance-free hair care, then this unscented conditioner will be perfect for you.
Why make a plain Conditioner Base?
The idea for the new Conditioner Base came about after lots of requests for a refillable conditioner that’s fragrance free. This is a simple fragrance free conditioner that works incredibly well when left alone in its simplest form.
The second source of inspiration for the new conditioner is my in-person workshops that I’ve been running here in Bristol. After seeing people in my workshops enjoying creating their own fragrances from essential oils, I wanted to create a simple conditioner that could be customised and have essential oils added into it.
What’s in the Conditioner Base?
Our Conditioner Base is a lush and creamy blend of hydrating wheat protein, strengthening vitamin B5 and moisturising rice bran oil with a paraben-free preservative.
All you need to hydrate, detangle, protect and strengthen your hair without any nasties.
5 fun ways to use it
The fun part is making it your own! Customising our natural Conditioner Base is super simple and fun. Here’s how you to whip up your own perfect conditioners and leave-ins:
1. Make the smell yours: Want hair that smells like a field of fresh lavender or an orange grove? Got a penchant for patchouli? A few drops of your favourite essential oils can be easily added to the base (20-40 drops per 90ml tin.) Mix it up straight in the tin, and just like that, you’ve got a conditioner that smells just how you like it.
2. Supercharge your formula: Hair in need of a little extra boost? Add a teaspoon of your favourite carrier oil to 90ml of Conditioner Base. Tailor it to your hair’s needs and watch the transformation.
For dry hair: Argan, apricot kernel and fractionated coconut oil are all very good at helping to keep moisture sealed in.
For frizz: Add a teaspoon of jojoba or olive oil for smoother hair.
To add shine: Add a teaspoon of camellia or grapeseed oil.
For a super moisturising boost: add a few drops of rich castor oil.
3. Smooth operator: Use the Conditioner Base as a deep conditioning mask for lovely smooth hair. After shampooing, slather your customised conditioner onto towel-dried hair, focusing just on the mid-lengths and ends. Step out of the shower, pop on your favourite playlist and let it soak into your hair for 20 minutes. Then hop back in and rinse it out thoroughly.
4. Make a leave-in conditioner spray: If your hair needs something that you can leave in to work it's magic all day long, this light spray will do the trick. Mix a tablespoon of Conditioner Base to warm water into 2-4 tablespoons of warm water, depending on how strong you'd like your leave-in. Pour into a clean empty spray bottle (with a few drops of essential oils if you want to) and spritz into the ends of your hair.
5. Make a styling cream: A defining cream is a styling product that gives your hair extra texture by defining the ends. It will enhance curls and is great for styling short hair cuts too. Try mixing cornstarch and natural cosmetic clays (like rhassoul or kaolin) into some styling cream until you get a consistency you like. Or even better, try mixing our Conditioner Base with a little bit of our Dry Shampoo to create a styling paste.

Some important things to remember
I really hope you have fun customising your own conditioner! There are some important things to remember to help you get the most out of your tin of Conditioner Base and to keep it safe.
1. When adding essential oils or carrier oils, it's easiest to drop the oils straight into the tin it comes in. Create a little well in the middle of the tin for any additives and then mix in well, into the whole contents of the tin.
2. Cleanliness is key. Make sure anything you use for mixing is clean and sterile to avoid any contamination.
3. Label what you have made with the date (or note it down in a safe place). Use the conditioner within 6 months of making anything, as any additives will shorten its Best Before End date. You can store in the fridge to be on the safe side if you want to. Only ever add ingredients that are safe to use on your skin (look for cosmetic grade oils) and are still in date.
4. Only ever use essential oils in the ratio of 20-40 drops per 90g/ml of base. For instance, if you're only using a portion of the tin, adjust the amount of drops accordingly. Essential oils are very potent so they can cause allergic reactions, and cause illness, if too much is used.
5. Only ever add up to 2 teaspoons in total of carrier oils per tin of Conditioner Base. Otherwise you risk the base splitting if it's too oil-heavy (not to mention it likely being way too much for your hair).
Enjoy the results of lovely-smelling, healthy hair
With regular use of your customised conditioners, you’ll notice your hair becoming softer, shinier, and much more manageable. Particularly if you have wavy, curly or coily hair. Plus, you get the satisfaction of knowing exactly what’s in your conditioner – because you made it!
