5 fun ways to use our new customisable Conditioner Base
Iâm excited to introduce you to my latest gem of a hair care product â the brand new natural Conditioner Base. The idea for it had been on my mind for a while now and itâs finally here. A customisable conditioner that you can mix and make your own hair care creations with.
Itâs here to revolutionise your hair care game. If you're looking for a versatile addition to your natural and eco-friendly hair care routine, this is it.
Why make a plain Conditioner Base?
The idea for the new Conditioner Base came about from two different sources. The first being my customers after lots of requests for a refillable conditioner thatâs fragrance free. This is a simple fragrance free conditioner that works incredibly well when left alone in its simplest form.
The second source of inspiration was the in-person workshops that Iâve been running here in Bristol. After seeing people in my workshops enjoying creating their own fragrances, I wanted to create a simple conditioner that could be customised and have essential oils added in.
Â
Whatâs the big deal with this Conditioner Base?
Picture this: a lush and creamy blend of hydrating wheat protein, strengthening vitamin B5 and moisturising rice bran oil with a paragon-free preservative. All you need to hydrate, detangle, protect and strengthen your hair without any added nasties at all.
Now, the fun part â making it your own! Customising our natural Conditioner Base is super simple and fun.
5 fun ways to use it
Hereâs how you to whip up your own perfect conditioners and leave-ins:
1. Make the smell yours: Want your hair to smell like a field of lavender or an orange grove? Got a particular penchant for patchouli? Add a few drops of your fave essential oils to the base (20-40 drops per 90ml tin.) Mix it up, and just like that, youâve got a conditioner that smells just how you like it.
2. Supercharge your formula: Need a little extra boost of something extra?
For dry hair: Add a teaspoon of carrier oil â either argan, apricot kernel or fractionated coconut oil â to 90ml of Conditioner Base. Tailor it to your hairâs needs and watch the transformation to healthier hair.
For frizz: Add a teaspoon* of jojoba or olive oil
To add shine: Add a teaspoon* of camellia or grapeseed oil
For a super moisturising boost: add a few drops of castor oil.
3. Smooth operator: Use it as a deep conditioning mask for lovely smooth hair. After shampooing, slather your customised conditioner onto damp hair, focusing just on the mid-lengths and ends. Step out of the shower, pop on your favourite playlist and let it sit in your hair for 20 minutes or more. Then hop back in and rinse out thoroughly.
4. Make a leave-in conditioner spray: Need a light spray that you can leave in to work it's magic all day long? Mix a tablespoon of Conditioner Base to warm water into 2-4 tablespoons of warm water, depending on how strong you'd like your leave-in. Pour into a clean empty spray bottle (with a few drops of essential oils if you want to) and just spritz into the ends of your hair.
5. Make a styling cream: Conditioner Base is part of our Home Brew DIY recipe "Make Your Own Defining Cream". A defining cream is a styling product that gives your hair extra texture by defining the ends. It will enhance curls and is great for styling short hair cuts with a invisible, matte finish.

Some important things to remember
I really hope you enjoy a whole new way to engage with your hair care routine and have fun customising your own conditioners! There are some important things to remember to help you get the most out of your pot of Conditioner Base and keep it safe.
1. If you're only mixing in essential oils or adding carrier oils, it's easiest to drop the oils straight into the tin it comes in and then mix well.
2. Cleanliness is key. If you're storing your creation in a different container to the tin it comes in, make sure the container is the right size, is clean and is sterile.
3. Label what you have made with (or write down in a safe place) the date. Use within 6 months of making it, store in the fridge if you can to be on the safe side. Always use added ingredients that are still in date.
4. Only ever use essential oils in the ratio of 20-40 drops per 90ml (or 100g) of base. For instance if you're only using a portion of the tin, adjust the amount of drops accordingly. Essential oils are very potent so they can cause allergic reactions, and cause illness, if too much is used.
5. *Only add up to 2 teaspoons in total of carrier oils per tin of Conditioner Base. Otherwise you risk the base splitting if it's too oil-heavy (not to mention it likely being too much for your hair).
Enjoy the results of lovely-smelling, healthy hair
With regular use of your customised conditioners, youâll notice your hair becoming softer, shinier, and much more manageable. Particularly if you have wavy, curly or coily hair. Plus, you get the satisfaction of knowing exactly whatâs in your conditioner â because you made it!â¨
Why not get crafty and show your hair some love? There's nothing more satisfying than learning about something new and making something you're super happy with (in my opinion!).
